A new car park ‘Donji Grad' at Sava pier, with 407 parking places was opened for a trial period yesterday, said JKP ‘Parking Servis' CEO Boban Kovačević for ‘Beoinfo'.

According to CEO Kovačević, since the first bicycle path was built in Belgrade, Sava pier has become a very attractive location for recreational cyclist and walkers.

- When the restaurants were built the pathway and bicycle path at Sava pier were occupied by parked cars which jeopardized walkers and cyclists' safety. By launching the car park ‘Donji Grad' the flow of traffic will be made more efficient along the Belgrade riverbanks. At the entrance of the pathway a physical obstacle will be put up and it will prevent the vehicles from entering. The entrance will be allowed only to delivery vehicles early in the morning so as to bring this part of the city back to walkers and cyclists. The tourists, who come to our city on the cruiser boats will now instead of the cluttered pier see a very well organized pathway of the most beautiful part of Belgrade riverbanks - added Kovačević.

- The roof and the backyard of ‘Beton Hala' have been transformed into a special car park which is equipped with an automatic control of entering and collecting of payment. Opening hours of ‘Donji Grad' car park is non-stop. Parking is charged per promotional price of 50 dinars an hour - points out Kovačević.

The construction of the car park ‘Donji Grad' was initiated by Assembly of City of Belgrade in May last year. In the meantime the complete technical documentation for opening of the new lanes was prepared and the roof construction was strengthened.

An international competition for an architectural design of ‘Beton hala centar' is in progress. The aim of the competition is to find the best design which would draw attention to the potentials of the Sava river banks. The competition is open until the 28th of April and the winner will be announced on the 13th May.
