Completed Meetings with Municipal Representatives

Upon initiative of the acting director of PUC „Parking Service“ Andrija Čupković, ten meetings were held with chairmen of all central city municipalities where, in cooperation with the Secretariat of Transport, were considered crucial issues of occupants with parking.

Upon proposal of occupants of Stari Grad, the main topic of the discussion held on August 8 with the chairman of that municipality, Dejan Kovačević, was the construction of a new parking lot in Kalemegdan. As early as September the works will start on development of the existing parking lot characterized by very poor layout, unregulated traffic flow and large number of irregularly parked vehicles jeopardizing pedestrian traffic. Necessary work permits have already been provided, and the latest barriers arrive from Germany in the second or the third week of September. The parking lot should begin to operate as of October 1 this year. Also was discussed the parking issue of occupants located in New Dorćol, crossroad with Uzun Mirkova street, at the sports centre “May 25th”, and parking near Nebojša Tower, and also prospective locations for tourist buses in Tadeuša Košćuška street.

The acting director of “Parking Service” also discussed parking issues with the chairman of the municipality Vladan Kocić, who emphasized the major issues faced by drivers near Vidikovačka Market and in Marička street, due to insufficient parking spaces.

The zones were the major topic in the meeting held on August 11 with representatives of Palilula municipality, when rearrangement of the zones and implementation of a new one in the settlement Profesorska kolonija were discussed, along with adaptation of the roof of the Botanical Garden garage.

The parking issue along Požeška street and near the Market in Banovo Brdo was emphasized on August 12 by the chairman of the municipality of Čukarica, Srdjan Kolarić. The location of the Cerak Market was also discussed, including initiative for joint activities of Čukarica and Rakovica municipalities, regarding the construction of additional parking capacities in function of free of charge parking for passenger vehicles of people coming to the market, instead of proposal of PUE „City Markets“ to assign this parking lot for delivery vans.

Today representatives of the municipality of Voždovac set out a long-time issue of vehicles irregularly parked in Vojvode Stepe street, thus hampering the traffic. The issue should be solved by reconstruction, after which will be provided 275 parking spaces, and will be arranged also new signalization. The representatives of the municipality of Voždovac pointed up to „Parking Service“ also the parking issues near the faculties.

All the meetings are attended also by representatives of the competent Secretariat of Traffic who, based on proposals put forward by the municipality chairmen, consider the options of construction of new parking areas and turning of neglected areas already used for parking purposes by citizens, into a developed parking areas, for which there is already a number of initiatives.

„In next two months an analysis of all ten city municipalities will be completed, in order to detect for each of them a bottleneck, followed by solution of issue in cooperation with the Secretariat for Utility and Housing Affairs and Urban Planning and other city institutions“, said Čupković and on behalf of „Parking Service“ invited all the citizens to apply to their municipalities with respect to any issue they may have with parking and to get information in this regard through their municipality chairmen.
