14.09.2009.
The new extension of the zoned areas, which comes into effect on the 1st November, will include the part of Vracar enclosed by the streets Kneginja Zorka, McKenzie, Cara Nikolaja Drugog, Milesevskom, Vojvode Supljikca and Bulevarom Kralja Aleksandra as well as a small district of Zvezdara municipality between the streets Vojvode Supljikca, Branka Krsmanovica and Bulevara Kralja Aleksandra. As soon as Faculty of Traffic completes Feasibility study, ordered by the Department of Traffic, the number of parking places will be known as well as which parking zones will be introduced in that area.
A constant lack of parking places in this part of the city has prompted the authorities of Vracar municipality to initiate introduction of parking zones with a time limit in the 50 streets in which this problem has become critical. As many as 74% of the citizens have supported this initiative in the survey conducted by the municipality.
‘Department of Traffic and JKP ‘Parking Servis’ are doing the study, which will determine the zone in this part of the city. It has been planned that the zoned parking system is introduced in the parts of Palilula and Zvezdara municipality by the end of 2010. and in such a way to finalize the process of zoning in the city centre’, Radenko Vukovic, Manager of parking control development and organization division, has said to us.
Until the 1st June, when the third zone was introduced at the lower Dorcol, a great number of drivers had parked their cars in that part of the city so as to avoid paying the parking and a time limit. As a result of such behaviour the residents of this area had faced numerous problems when trying to find a free parking place below Cara Dusana Street.
‘A new parking regime has made it possible for the residents of this part of the city to have enough places to park their cars. In addition to the marked parking places we have also defined pedestrian areas bringing in more regulations. Since we extended the third zone, many citizens of the lower Dorcol have come forward expressing their gratitude for being able to park their cars in front of their builidings’, Vukovic has pointed out.
